The AgriMental project creates three cutting-edge core outputs to increase mental health literacy, resilience, and human sustainability in, and throughout the agricultural workforce. Each activity supports vocational education and training (VET) trainers, learners, and workers in physical and mental wellness in the agricultural workforce development sector using practical, accessible, and evidence-based tools.

R1 – Coaching Manual for VET Trainers

“Predictors of Psychological Wellbeing in Agriculture”

A comprehensive 100-page Coaching Manual providing VET trainers the skills to identify, comprehend, and confront psychological issues impacting the agricultural workforce.

Noteworthy features include:

  • Research-based findings related to mental health prevalence within farmer/vocational ag participants
  • Predictors of psychological distress and negative mental health (stress, depression, and factors related to vulnerability within the agricultural workforce)
  • Customized, personal coaching methodologies for agriculture-related issues
  • Useful practical guidelines for coaches to prevent or intervene during distress of agricultural or farming experiences
  • Practical techniques for engaging learners or agricultural workers and raising mental health literacy of educators or trainers and their students

The manual will be practiced through a Train-the-Coaches session (10 – 15 trainers) and a proposed credentials endorsed by an agricultural education board entitled, “Coaching for Psychological Wellbeing and Human Sustainability in Agriculture.”

R2 – Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)

“Psychological Wellbeing in Agriculture”

A fully digital learning pathway comprised of over 50 practical lessons focusing on:

  • Nature-based therapeutic practices
  • Real work-based scenarios which enhance positive mental health
  • Stress prevention and coping strategies to support agricultural workers
  • Support tools for vulnerable groups in rural contexts
  • Flexible modules that can be completed anywhere and at any time

The MOOC will be piloted with 100 VET learners, with adjustments made based on their feedback.

A micro-credential will be offered to learners: “Nature and Work-Based Scenarios for Mental Health in Agriculture.”

R3 – Operational Checklist for Psychological Wellbeing in Agriculture

A 50-item, easy-to-use operational checklist to support farms, agribusinesses, VET centers, and rural stakeholders in:

  • Implementing preventative mental health measures
  • Developing a healthier workplace
  • Recognizing stress triggers in agricultural jobs
  • Supporting behavior change towards wellbeing
  • Embedding mental health actions into the everyday

The checklist will be piloted with 100 farmers, and VET learners, providing a practical and systems-scalable resource for farm workplace wellbeing improvement.

Motivational & Promotional Campaign

Alongside the three official outcomes, AgriMental will deliver a Europe-wide awareness campaign outlining:

  • Mental health literacy for farming
  • Nature-based wellbeing practices
  • Reduced stigma in rural communities
  • Access to digital psychology support tools

Through events, outreach activities, and communication materials, the campaign amplifies the project’s impact and long-term sustainability.
